OUR WORK
Rehearsals
On average, our dance and theater projects last from 3 to 4 months and are run by professional theater people. At the beginning the rehearsals are held once a week and on weekends. During the last week, before the opening, the auditorium is made available for the final rehearsals of each specific group.
During the past years, several theater groups which continuously produce and perform new shows have been established at PUMPE.
Project week for schools
PUMPE offers in collaboration with Berlin schools their facilities for school project weeks. These are run Monday through Friday and always end with a public performance on Friday. During the preparation of the production the students gain access to a deeper insight of drama, improvisation, movement, voice, stage design, lighting, sound and video techniques, photography and music through the collaboration of professional theater people. With its supplementary artistic project work, PUMPE fosters, as an extracurricular activity, skills and the potential for young people to be outside of the school yet remain as a class. Because responsibilities are transferred onto the young people, they develop valuable key competences which will prepare them for their (professional) life, such as the ability to be part of a team, self-esteem, social competences, flexibility and accepting responsibility. Due to the great success, a cooperation entailing six project weeks per year has been established with the Friedrich-Bayer-Secondary School.
International encounters
PUMPE arranges bicultural and multicultural theater workshops together with institutions for youth culture and youth theatres from other European countries. The international participants are accommodated in PUMPE's youth hostel Jugendgästehaus PUMPE during 7-10 days of intensive training and rehearsal period, which makes getting to know each other easier and intensifies the contact between young people from all over Europe. "Stepping into Europe" is a project that PUMPE arranged together with theater projects from Ireland, Sweden and Italy, and is a current example of this type of networking. While dealing with school as a subject, six adolescents from each country work with different forms of artistic expressions. Rehearsal periods at home alternate with work meetings in the partner countries. The produced results are placed on a website and brought through Internet to the attention of the public at large
Consultation
JugendKulturZentrum PUMPE offers to independent youth groups and school theater study groups from Berlin and the state of Brandenburg, the possibility to rent PUMPE's rehearsal facilities for a weekend.
